All Nippon Airways (ANA) will be the first to fly the new stretched version of the Boeing Dreamliner 787-9 when it launches service on domestic Japanese routes next month. The airline will accept deliveries of the updated model on July 27, launching service with a special commemorative flight on August 4 for Japanese and American elementary school children living in Japan. The plane will begin domestic service in August with introduction on international routes from April 2015. The first 787-9 for use on domestic routes will be equipped with 395 seats, 60 more than ANA’s existing domestic 787-8. ANA was the launch customer for the Dreamliner and is the world’s biggest operator of the 787 with a total of 80 planes ordered. The new aircraft achieves better fuel economy than the previous model and has 20 percent more seating and cargo capacity.
