The world’s longest commercial flight will soon come to an end as Singapore Airlines routes its final trip from its hub to Newark Airport on November 23. The flight covers 15,300 kilometers with a duration of about 18 hours, stretching up towards the North Pole. Singapore Airlines later announced that the second longest commercial flight, linking the city-state with Los Angeles, would also come to an end. While these two flights will be retired, it opens up the title to a new long haul heavyweight. Qantas will soon boast the title of longest commercial flight distance in the world with its Sydney to Dallas service, ranking in at 13,700 kilometers. A Delta flight between Johannesburg and Atlanta will claim the longest flight duration at 17 hours long. Singapore Airlines is ending the route due to the rising cost of fuel to power the Airbus A340-500s used on the routes as it upgrades its fleet to A350s.
