It seems the answer to cozier, comfier First Class flights isn’t through gimmicks like ergonomically designed seats or usage of leather upholstery found in luxury vehicles. Japan Airlines (JAL) has unveiled a new innovation for its premium cabin, in the form of a mattress topper. The airweave mattresses come in soft and firm options to top the fully-flat First Class JAL Sky Suite 777 seats. One side of the mattress has a soft, supple feel, while the other side is firmer for extra support. The mattresses have already been introduced on JAL Business Class flights and will now appear in First Class flights originating in Tokyo to London, New York, and Los Angeles. Pillows made from the same soft, supportive foam are available to make long-haul passengers’ journeys as comfortable as possible.
