Singapore Airlines Buys Planes



Singapore Airlines announced that it is the Boeing 787-10X launch customer after ordering 30 of the aircrafts. The 787-10X is still in the planning stage, but will feature 320 seats, doubling the number of seats of the Boeing 787-8. In the same announcement, Singapore Airlines also said that it also ordered 30 Airbus A350-900, which are slated for longer range or high-capacity routes. The 787-10X will be used for busy midrange routes within Asia. This is one of the biggest orders in the airline’s history with a price tag of more than US$17 billion.
Airbus is expected to start delivering the planes in the 2016-2017 financial year and Singapore has options for an additional 20 planes, which may be converted to the larger A350-1000s. While Boeing is scheduled to start delivering their planes in the 2018-2019 fiscal year.
