In a patriotic new runway look, Singapore’s flag carrier, Singapore Airlines, is celebrating the nation’s 50th anniversary by adding a commemorative new design to its livery, seemingly wrapping the fuselage of two Airbus A380s with the Singaporean flag. The first A380 will begin flying early this month followed by the second taking to the skies in July, and the two will fly routes to Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, New Delhi, Shanghai, Sydney, and Zurich until the end of 2015. For enthusiastic fliers, there’s a collectible model of the aircraft being sold in the airline’s KrisShop sized at scales of 1:200 and 1:100, the latter with limited editions. “Singapore Airlines’ success is closely tied to the success of Singapore,” says the airline’s CEO, Goh Choon Phong. “What better way to celebrate SG50 than by proudly flying the national flag around the world on the world’s largest aircraft?”
