Super-jumbo lovers, take note: Etihad Airways’ A380 now flies between Abu Dhabi and Sydney. The service began May 31, with daily, direct flights departing Abu Dhabi International airport at 10:00 p.m. and arriving at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport at 5:55 the following evening. Return flights depart Sydney at 9:25 p.m. and arrive in Abu Dhabi at 6:15 a.m. the following morning. This return service was designed to easily connect with Etihad’s Abu Dhabi−London route, which is also operated by an A380.
The aircraft is renowned for its ultra-luxurious The Residence by Etihad, a three-room private suite serviced by Savoy-trained butlers; as for the rest of the plane, there are nine First Apartments comprising first class, 70 Business Studios in business class, and 417 Economy Smart seats. The carrier operates an additional four round-trips weekly between the Sydney and Abu Dhabi, which are currently serviced by Airbus A340-600 aircraft but will soon be upgraded to Boeing 777-300ER. Together with the A380 services, this increases seats on Etihad’s Abu Dhabi−Sydney route by 30 percent.
