Book: ‘Defining Luxury’ Showcases Hotel Designer

Atlanta-based Hirsch Bedner Associates is a leader in hospitality-industry design, with a portfolio that spans 80 countries and includes such high-end hotels as the Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort in Abu Dhabi, Bangkok’s Siam Kempinski, and the recently restored Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund. For those who have admired the firm’s designs while traveling, a new coffee table book, “Defining Luxury” (Assouline Publishing; US$65), now lets you ogle HBA’s oeuvre from the comfort of home. The lavishly illustrated volume charts the company’s history since 1965, and provides a rare glimpse into the conceptual process behind its award-winning interiors. –Angela Leenhouts
