The world’s first fully enclosed cabins with floor-to-ceiling doors, inspired by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
The competition for the ultimate in-flight experience has intensified with Emirates’ announcement of its “game changing” first-class cabins, hot on the heels of Singapore Airline’s new First Class suites.
At the Dubai Air Show, the Middle Eastern airline revealed that first-class passengers on its Boeing 777 jets will be assigned up to 40 square feet of personal space in suites measuring 7-feet by 5-feet 8-inch.
The cherry on top of it all? These are also the world’s first fully enclosed cabins with floor to ceiling doors, and inspired by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class no less.
Emirates’ president, Sir Tim Clark, said: “This is the first time an Emirates product has been so influenced by another luxury brand, but it is a natural fit as both Emirates and Mercedes-Benz have the same unwavering commitment to fine detail, uncompromising quality, and a drive to push the boundaries.”
Needless to say, this luxurious experience doesn’t come cheap—a round-trip ticket from Geneva to Dubai in early January showed first-class prices around US$9,000.
Here are the highlights of Emirates’ new first-class suites:
Private flight experience
Passengers get to rest in fully enclosed suites with floor-to-ceiling doors, akin to the cabins in some of the world’s most premium train cabins and private jets.
With 40 square feet of space in the cabin, passengers have ample room to move about even after the lie-flat bed has been set up.
Inspired by Mercedes
A luxurious car, on a private jet, inside a big plane? Sounds like it. Mimicking the interior of a Mercedes ride, the color palette of the suite includes cream, gray, and gold.
Sky’s the limit
Because not everyone’s lucky enough to sit by the window and view the sky through provided binoculars, passengers in the center suites can enjoy virtual windows with screens that project the view of the sky outside.
The suite comes with individual temperature control settings as well as customizable mood lighting via a touchscreen.
Privacy for all
Don’t like being disturbed? The suites have a service window where passengers can be served drinks and appetizers without having to open the doors.
Sleep in bliss
A good night’s rest is ensured as the fully-flat beds feature a “zero-gravity” position inspired by NASA technology for extra comfort, even during turbulence.
Shop to your heart’s content as passengers are entitled up to 70kg of checked baggage, which is more than three times the industry standard for economy passengers.
Take your travels with you via an Inspiration Kit, which includes a notebook and pen for jotting down stories, memories, and ideas. To freshen up, reach for the Byredo skincare collection, Hydra Active moisturizing pyjamas, and Bulgari amenity kits.
Passengers will be entertained with a 32″ inch Full HD TV with over 2,500 channels to pick from. To complete the experience, lie back and relax with a pair of active noise-cancelling headphones, which have been designed by award-winning audio brand Bowers & Wilkins.
