For those in search of a vacation à la Endless Summer, COMO Hotels and Resorts’ new surfing venture in the Maldives provides the perfect breaks. As the only resort in the string of uninhabited Thaa Atoll islands in the southern Maldives, Maalifushi by COMO has partnered with the self-proclaimed “luxury surf pioneers” Tropicsurf to offer top instruction and world-famous waves far away from crowded surf beaches. Tropicsurf, which has 20 years of experience in the field of high-class surf excursions, has placed a resident guide at Maalifushi who is equipped to help surfers of all levels navigate the waters, whether it be gaining balance in the gentler lagoons or mastering the big breaks that hit the area during the peak surf season from April to October. A surfer’s paradise, the area is only accessible via private seaplanes or live-aboard boats, rendering the waters nearly exclusive to the resort’s guests.
Two week-long packages were created in conjunction with the new partnership. For those new to the sport, the Learn to Surf package offers lessons that will introduce the fundamentals and help partakers get comfortable on a board, while the Surf Pro package is aimed at surfers with more experience looking to improve their technique and surf rougher waves. Priced at US$6,170 and $7,390 respectively, the packages include half-board accommodation, and equipment and boat transfers to the best local spots are part of the program as well. In between lessons, guests can also take advantage of the resort’s PADI dive center to dive and snorkel the vibrant reefs in surrounding waters or relax with Asian-inspired spa and wellness therapies at the Shambhala Retreat.
