Thanks for your interest in writing for DestinAsian magazine. Here are a few things you should know.
Pitching Features
We receive an overwhelming number of feature pitches for the magazine. With only six issues a year, we publish very few of them. Also, we assign our features many months in advance. That means even if we accept your story, it might be quite a while before it reaches the page. Of course we still want to see your best ideas.
Pitching Departments
You’ll have better luck suggesting ideas for specific sections of the magazine. Pick up a copy of the magazine to get a feel for them. (Or download a recent issue through Zinio.)
The front of the magazine is occupied by the Good to Go section, which has a number of sub-sections. It covers what’s new and happening in the world of travel, focused mostly on the Asia-Pacific region but sometimes on other regions as well.
Among the sub-sections Good to Go:
Next Stop: Where to eat, stay, and shop in an up-and-coming destination.
Top Tables: A look at interesting new restaurants.
Heritage: Focused on historical towns and neighborhoods and conservation efforts.
Art Beat: Interesting news from the arts, including exhibits and museums.
Hotel Openings: Note-worthy launches of resorts and hotels.
Checking In: A writer’s experience staying at new and notable resorts.
If you’re new to writing for DestinAsian, we suggest you tailor your pitches to these and other sections first. After we get to know you a little better, your chances of successfully pitching feature stories will dramatically improve. You might also try pitching stories to the website.
Send your story pitches to editors@destinasian.com. Begin the Subject line of your email with “Pitch:” to get our attention. We’ll do our best to respond to as many pitches as we can.
