Alila’s Luxury Liveaboard Sets Sail in Indonesia

The Alila Purnama.

It may not be the most budget-friendly phinisi (traditional teakwood schooner) to ply the reef-rich Raja Ampat archipelago, but Alila Purnama (alilahotels.com) does look set to raise the bar on liveaboard luxury in the region. The latest addition to the Alila hotel group’s Indonesian portfolio is a 46-metre-long cruiser with five spacious cabins, a dive center, a spa therapist, and a gourmet galley that turns out ocean-fresh seafood. Sailing from the West Papuan port of Sorong, a six-night island-hopping cruise package for 10 people will set you back US$54,000. That includes shore excursions and two dives a day—not to mention the privilege of exploring some of the planet’s most biodiverse waters in style. –David Tse
