For the sprawling city of Seoul, just one JW Marriott hotel was not enough. The JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul opened on February 6 with the distinction of being the first hotel in the city to receive the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Gold certification. The 170-room property boasts 19 Executive Sky View Rooms and 15 suites with views of Seoul’s historical treasure—the Dongdaemun or east gate that surrounded Seoul during the Joseon Dynasty. Observe the fabled gate from the hotel’s rooftop Griffin Bar or while nibbling on artisan chocolates at The Lounge. At night retire to the dedicated Executive Lounge with an open balcony that services the Executive Floor rooms and showcases more views of the eponymous gate. The low-rise building features a modern two-tone facade with an alternating geometric window pattern. Inside find sophisticated modern furnishings in steel grays and regal purples. Luxe touches from a grand piano to chandeliers illuminating the indoor pool contribute to the property’s opulent atmosphere. The JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul joins the group’s existing JW Marriott Hotel Seoul in the upmarket neighborhood of Gangnam.
