Promising to bring Thai hospitality to the Maldives, the new Dusit Thani Maldives resort is now confirmed to open on February 6. It is the first foray into the Maldives by Dusit International, a Thai company founded in Bangkok in 1949 and now a major luxury hotelier in Thailand and elsewhere. Other locations include Manila, Cairo, and Dubai.
“Dusit Thani Maldives will elevate the brand to a new level,” CEO Chanin Donavanik said in a statement. “This property represents a milestone in our strategic expansion plans. As we gain momentum in the region, we look forward to advancing the guest experience throughout our group of hotels and resorts.”
Situated on the scenic Mudhdhoo Island in Baa Atoll, the new resort features Maldivian architecture blended with Thai artistry, the largest pool in the Maldives (750 square meters), about a hundred villas, and a bar with bedside telescopes. High-tech amenities include free wi-fi, MP3 docking stations, Bose surround-sound systems, and 46-inch LED IPTVs with satellite. Some villas come with a private pool.
Among the food options are a signature Thai restaurant, a seafood grill, a poolside cocktail bar, and a 24-hour dining outlet. The resort also boasts tennis courts and a spa with six tree-top therapy pods boasting vistas of the island and turquoise lagoon.
Getting to the resort involves a 35-minute seaplane ride from Male International Airport.
(Note: Earlier versions of this story reported the property could open in mid-December, then mid-January, as Dusit pushed back the estimated launch dates.)
