Tourist numbers may have dipped in recent years, but the fact remains that Singapore is still the preferred headquarters of multinational companies. Its government pro-business policies, excellent transport system, and deep pool of local and foreign talents make it an ideal hub for firms to gain a foothold in Asia. This explains why the city-state continues to attract the biggest names in the hospitality industry.
Oakwood is just one of the many, and after opening Orchard Road’s Oakwood Studios in March, it will launch Oakwood Premier OUE in June 15, at the heart of the country’s hectic central business district. The 268-unit serviced apartment in Shenton Way aims to give business travelers a stylish refuge from the frenetic stress of the Little Red Dot. It comes with a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, all of which can be booked for a minimum of seven nights (starting from US$201 per night).
General manager Roy Liang talks about what guests can expect and what Oakwood is doing to pave the path to wellness for its guests.
Tell us about Oakwood Premier’s personality and why it’s so distinct.
All of our apartments are designed for guests to treat as if it were their own luxury apartment—the units are furnished with either a kitchenette or fully equipped kitchen, Samsung mobile phone and tablet, washer/dryer and complimentary launderette access. In addition to this, our strategic inner city location in the heart of Singapore’s downtown provides guests with access to vast retail and smart on-site corporate facilities, while still giving a relaxing home environment with all the luxuries of a hotel.
We also wanted to stand out by creating a “sanctuary in the city” and enabling our discerning, international travelers to achieve a work-life balance, so we offer a range of premium facilities, including an outdoor infinity pool and Jacuzzi, [our gym] the Fitness Center by Oakwood, contemporary lobby bar, outdoor barbeque, the Oakwood Executive Club and Boardroom, residents’ lounge, and Se7enth restaurant, all of which are managed by Oakwood.
What was the property’s design inspiration?
It’s a contemporary reinterpretation of a luxurious modern city apartment. The interior design uses an overarching theme of defined vertical lines and dense volumes that define the landscape of the city.
The property was designed this way because we want our guests to feel an instant sense of arrival and relaxation when they enter our grand seventh floor lobby. I personally love the high ceiling here, which gives a real and immediate sense of space and serenity in such a densely packed area of the city. This, combined with just two sit-down reception counters, creates a very warm and approachable welcome in our entrance area. We wanted to recreate the ambience of the luxurious residences that our guests are used to and make them feel as if they are at home.
I think it’s extremely important for a serviced apartment to deliver a feeling of security and high comfort through it’s design aesthetic, so we used a combination of solid colors with warm timber finishes, complementing a timeless and sophisticated color palette with earthy tones for an overall “luxurious modernity” look and feel. I also love the centerpiece in our Se7enth restaurant, which I consider a stunning feature.
Singapore is known for its fast-paced of lifestyle. How do you help your guests to relax?
Allowing our guests to de-stress easily has been a core focus of the Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore’s offering from the start—we recognize the growing need for decompression in an increasingly fast-paced society. Our al-fresco, sky high infinity pool and terrace have cabanas and sun-loungers where residents can recoup and rejuvenate. Other leisure amenities on site such as The Fitness Centre by Oakwood allows guests to achieve a work-life balance.
We have a private poolside Executive Club Lounge which is a quiet, professional environment for residents to work or relax. Residents who sign up for our exclusive Club Privileges are invited to enjoy complimentary breakfast and evening cocktails here. We also offer our Club guests complimentary use of the Executive Boardroom, which provides guests the convenience to hold their meetings on site, with catering and state-of-the-art amenities.
The ease and efficiency provided by these amenities is paired with the hospitality, wellness services, and personalized concierge services of a five-star hotel. From health and fitness trainers, beauty and grooming experts, spa treatments and prestigious tailors, guests of Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore will have insider access to some of the city’s best services at OUE Downtown.
As mentioned, we wanted guests to feel immediate relaxation and tranquility when they enter the property, and we achieve this through the design and styling, with very intuitively placed ambient lighting throughout all areas of Oakwood Premier Singapore.
This is the second Oakwood property to open in Singapore this year. What makes Singapore such an attractive market?
We have existing properties in the region (Manila, Seoul, Jakarta, Guangzhou, and Tokyo) and have further expansion plans for the future! We set our sights on Singapore because it is such a vibrant, cosmopolitan and dynamic city, which serves as a hub for both business and leisure travelers in Southeast Asia—certainly an attractive market for the Oakwood Premier brand. We all know that Singapore is leading the way in terms of combining residential facilities with leisure and working spaces, so we were excited by the opportunity to introduce our forward thinking concept here. Singapore is also a prime location for businesses to locate their Asia headquarters—this is also where our headquarters is located.
