Thanks to the efforts of four separate creative teams commissioned by lawyer-turned-hotelier Loh Lik Peng, this former Little India schoolhouse has been whimsically restored to showcase a madcap, endearing mishmash of provocative and quirky designs. The lobby level offers a dash of postmodern glamourâthink a handsome Frank Gehry sofaâjuxtaposed against a gray-toned industrial space. Twenty-nine guest rooms are available in three themes: the petite âPantoneâ rooms on level two, each done up in a different hue; level threeâs paper-inspired âMonoâ rooms, featuring either chirpy Pop Art installations or origami-like ceilings; and, best of all, the âWhimsicalâ rooms perched on level four, with towering loft beds and flourishes like a floor-to-ceiling rocket. When you are done marveling at the interiors, check out Cocotte, where the comparatively subdued rustic decor takes a backseat to Chef Anthony Yeohâs hearty French fare
