The brash Thai resort town of Pattaya has been called many things; “stylish” is rarely one of them. But that might change now that the Dusit group has opened the second property in its nascent D2 chain of hip boutique hotels. Thai design studio DWP has gone for a stylized seafaring theme here, from the rustic timber floors to the translucent, iceberg-inspired day spa and long, barracuda-shaped swimming pool. Of the 72 rooms, the best are the studio suites, equipped with large living areas, circular Jacuzzis, two flat-screen TVs, and espresso machines. D2 is drawing the Thai style set with a new perspective of the old party town—not least from the rooftop Sunset Lounge, where guests can admire views of the pastel streetscape and the Gulf of Thailand beyond (Pattaya 2 Rd.; 66-3/ 876-9999; dusit.com; doubles from US$205).
