Only a rocky headland separates Little Chaweng Beach from the bustle of its bigger, brasher neighbor to the north, but that’s enough to ensure that guests at Koh Samui’s chicest new hotel have access to a sedate stretch of sand. Set within lush grounds overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, Vana Belle (66-77/915-555; starwoodhotels.com; doubles from US$302), part of Starwood’s Luxury Collection brand, features 80 suites and villas—all with private pools—done up in a cool ecru-and teak palette accented by folksy Thai art. The resort’s main restaurant, Kiree, showcases the flavors of southern Thailand, while dishes like roasted branzino with fennel and black olives are the order of the day at its beachfront Italian eatery. For R&R, there’s a small spa, as well as a savvy concierge who can set you up with everything from a sunrise yoga session to a scoop of Thai-style ice cream.—Harry Jacques
