The Luxe List 2009, China: Park Hyatt Beijing, Beijing
0

For convenience and cosmopolitan chic in the Chinese capital, the Park Hyatt Beijing is head and shoulders above the competition, literally. Beijing’s highest hotel soars 66 floors over the Chaoyang business district, with a lobby that yields 360-degree views of the sprawling city and, on a clear day, the Western Hills beyond. Even more impressive are the 237 rooms, which flip established room formulas: guests step directly into a sexy open bathroom with heated marble floors, a large rain shower, and massive limestone tub. This spa-like corridor leads through to sleek, soft-toned living quarters, all set against a brilliant backdrop of ancient and futuristic Beijing outside the large picture windows. The seductive China Bar and China Grill, which occupy a glass pyramid on levels 65 and 66, are destinations in their own right, as is the outdoor lounge Xiu—a Song dynasty–style pavilion on the hotel’s sixth-floor terrace. Other diversions seem to come in pairs: there are two gyms, two pools, and a two-story spa offering treatments based on traditional Chinese medicine (2 Jianguomenwai Dajie, Chaoyang; 86-10/8567-1234; beijing.park.hyatt.com; doubles from US$234).
