More resort than hotel, this elegant retreat on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur—just about halfway between the city and the airport—is an exclusive nook amid the much larger, and older, Saujana hotel compound. Set amid 160 lush hectares and flanked by two championship golf courses, The Club’s design comes courtesy of Jaya Ibrahim, who also helped craft the interiors of The PuLi in Shanghai. All 151 rooms and suites reflect the GHM group’s penchant for pared-down aesthetics: a subdued palette of black, white, and chocolate sets the scene with the occasional splash of color in ruby-red throw pillows and flowers. Linger in your bathroom’s huge terrazzo tub or visit the brand-new spa, where Balinese therapists are ready to pamper. Come mealtime, guests have access to the seven restaurants and bars at the neighboring Saujana hotel and golf club, while those who opt to dine on-site can enjoy dishes like lobster bisque with sevruga caviar or roasted Australian duck breast (Jl. Lapangan Terbang, Shah Alam; 603/ 7843-1234; ghmhotels.com; doubles from US$170).
