Local Colour at Hotel Indigo

When it opens in May, Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Island offers the snazziest digs in the neighborhood, not to mention the most exhilarating spot for a swim: the glass-bottomed rooftop pool is cantilevered 29 stories over the bustle of Queen’s Road East. Particularly arresting when illuminated at night, the building, designed by international architectural firm Aedas, is wrapped in an “eco-screen” of burnished bronze solar fins that corkscrews upward in the form of a Chinese dragon. This sense of place continues inside, where 130 svelte and cheery rooms pay tribute to their locale with colorful tea sets, handcrafted wall mosaics, and statuettes of legendary kung fu master Lam Jo. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto the neighboring office towers and apartments, though south-facing rooms provide views of a surprisingly lush mountainside. To better survey your surrounds, head up to the roof, where the poolside skybar takes its place among the highest—and chicest—cocktail aeries on the island. –David Tse
