Hanoi: Tan My Design Breathes New Life Into Embroidery

Set opposite its time-honored sister store on a Hanoi street famed for its silk shops, Tan My Design (61 Hang Gai St.; 84-4/3938-1154; tanmyembroidery.com.vn) gives three generations of embroidering history a modern outlook. The striking three-story boutique is a shrine to local artisans (including renowned interior designer Pascal Dang) alongside the store’s owner, clothier Do Thanh Huong. Tan My’s various fashion and homeware creations update classic Vietnamese stylings: toiletry bags are spruced up with fine embroidery, and Hanoian silks are pleated into sumptuous bedspreads and pillowcases. Be on the lookout for the Tan My Café, set to dish up French-inspired snacks here in the near future.
