The annual Balinale International Film Festival is set to return to the “Island of the Gods” from November 15 to 20.
Coinciding with the 18th ASEAN Summit, which also takes place on the island in November, Balinale 2011 will focus on movies produced in Southeast Asia, giving regional filmmakers a chance to showcase their talent to a global audience.
Since its inception in 2007, the festival has featured a bevy of independent and mainstream international films and documentaries. This year promises to be no exception, with screenings of a number of high-profile films including world premieres of Indonesia’s “They Live to Die” and “Bali – Island of the Dogs,” plus the national premiere of “Puss in Boots,” starring Antonio Banderas.
Workshops and seminars feature high on the festival’s agenda, and this year’s offerings are bound to inspire aspiring filmmakers. Included in the program are workshops by the acclaimed producer Gabrielle Kelly and the up-and-coming filmmaker Mustafa Davis.
This year’s festival will once again take place at Galeria 21 Cineplex at Mal Bali Galeria. Maps can be found here.
