In a special exhibition showcasing the beauty—and necessity—of Indonesian natural resources, Como Hotels and Resorts is installing artist Mickaël Obrénovitch’s “Human Roots” sculpture exhibition on its Como Shambhala Estate and Uma by Como, Ubud properties. Inspired by the idea of the Indonesian rain forest being the lung of Asia, French-born artist Obrénovitch crafted 200-year-old Javanese teak wood into graceful, complex sculptures reminiscent of the vital breathing organ that will be staged throughout the interiors and exteriors of the two grounds. The sculptures are available for purchase as a way to raise money for rain forest preservation, and an opening charity dinner including canapés, drinks, live music, and a three-course meal hosted at the Uma Ubud’s new Uma Cucina Italian restaurant on July 18 will send a quarter of its proceeds to preservation causes as well. The sculptures will be on display for hotel guests as well as the public between July 18 and October 18 in Uma’s wellness sanctuary, pool bar, lobby, and Cucina restaurant, and at the Shambhala Estate, in the lobby, tea house, and Ojas lounge.
