Nannies are reaching new heights with Etihad Airways new flying nanny service. Three hundred nannies, who formerly worked as cabin attendants, have begun serving across Etihad flights with a total of 500 nannies expected by the end of 2013.

The flying nannies are distinguishable by their bright orange aprons onboard as well as their specialized skills. Each nanny must complete two months of intensive training prior to their service. Etihad conducted the training at Norland College, a school specializing in child psychology and sociology.

These nouveau Mary Poppins are equipped with activity kits to entertain children in-flight including straws, stickers, cardboard, and arts and crafts materials. The nannies are also handy with paper, creating origami designs. For older children, the flying nannies carry simples quizzes and challenges to keep them occupied. During breaks in service, children are invited to tour the gallery.

At the conclusion of flights nannies will replenish milk bottles and offer necessities for the family, such as water and snacks. For those transiting nannies can advise about various baby changing and child facilities at the airport.
