Four Seasons has roared new life into one of Africa’s leading safari lodges in the Serengeti, Tanzania (Central Serengeti, Serengeti National Park; 255-7/7888-8888), which begins welcoming guests in the new year. In addition to 60 guest rooms, the lodge features 12 suites with plunge pools and a further five villas with private swimming pools. Each of the rooms includes an open-air sundeck with views out over the park’s endless plains. The lodge has been designed around a central two-story house, where Kula’s offers an African-style buffet, Maji Bar an à la carte restaurant, and Boma Grill serves more traditional fare.
Complementing its remarkable sunset views, The Sundowner Bar calls on a cellar replete with wines from across the continent, while the outdoor infinity pool commands views over another active watering hole—look, or listen, for the elephants. Arterial timber walkways allow access to different parts of the property, including the lodge’s spa complex and fitness center, outdoor infinity pool, and a Discovery Center—which in addition to housing museum-quality exhibits, contains a lecture hall for guests to learn about the local environment and history. The Four Seasons Safari Lodge is accepting reservations now for stays from January 1—the lodge welcomes children from age eight.
