With the recent ribbon cutting of the Angsana Hangzhou (86-571/8500-2000; angsana.com; doubles from US$189), Hangzhou’s spate of resort openings shows no sign of abating. Located six kilometers outside town amid the greenery and serene waters of the Xixi National Wetland Park, not far from its Banyan Tree sister property and a brand-new Sheraton, the Angsana has just 59 rooms that blend modern amenities and classic Chinese design elements. The hotel also features a rooftop swimming pool with a hot tub and poolside lounge, meeting facilities, a library, and restaurants that include a tearoom and a “rice bar” dedicated to Asia’s staple grain. –Chris Kirkpatrick
