Beginning September 1, Hawaiian Airlines will offer Apple iPad minis on all of its wide-body Boeing 767-300 airplanes. Hawaiian Airlines will be the first airline in the United States to provide in-flight entertainment on the device, though it won’t be free. Passengers in economy class can reserve iPad minis for $15 prior to departure, and $17 if purchased onboard. Business class travelers will receive the device free of charge.

Bluebox Avionics is the company behind the product, a global provider of in-flight entertainment solutions. Around 1,500 iPad minis will be deployed on 14 routes between Hawaii and the U.S. Mainland, Asia and South Pacific. More than 100 hours of entertainment are available to watch on the products, including Hollywood releases, television shows, and interactive games.

While Hawaiian Airlines is a first mover in the American market to provide entertainment on iPad products, airlines such as Qantas and budget carrier Jetstar have already introduced the service to Australian routes.
