In Hong Kong’s up-and-coming artsy South Coast neighborhood, local hotel group Ovolo has opened Ovolo Southside as the city’s first warehouse conversion hotel. The city-based architecture firm K plus K Associates transformed the interior of the 1976 building, complementing its industrial skeleton of exposed bricks and concrete floors with mid-century furnishings—a clean backdrop for the graffiti murals by the likes of local art collective Parent’s Parents and Los Angeles duo Cyrcle that fill many of its walls and corridors. Guests can choose from six different room types ranging from a mini twin room to a corner deluxe, but each comes with seven-layer beds, blackout blinds, floor-to-ceiling windows, amenities by Malin & Goetz, and an impressive list of complimentary rate inclusions: breakfast, happy hour drinks in Lo Lounge from 6–8 p.m., minibars replenished daily, and 24-hour gym access. And with its gallery space, main restaurant Cirqle, bar area Lo Lounge, and rooftop night spot Above, Ovolo is quickly attracting a local clientele, making it not just a hotel but a hangout for Hong Kong creative-types as well.
