Taking a unique culinary approach to Ramadhan, Kuala Lumpur’s creative food agency The Big Group is bringing all things Turkish to the city throughout this month at its Big Bazaar, exploring the culture of a different Muslim country through its tastes, smells, and sounds. Through August 3, various epicurean events around the city will showcase Turkey’s vibrant foods with spices, teas, fruits, nuts, baklava, and lokum and a myriad of other imports. Ben’s Independent Grocer will stock its shelves with the goods, and menus at Ben’s, Plan B coffee shop, and other Big Group restaurants will offer Turkish dishes to diners. From July 11 through 26, The Square at the Publika Shopping Gallery will be set up with the Turkish Food Bazaar, vending fresh-cooked kebabs, dolmas, stews, and other traditional foods as well as hosting various cultural events: demonstrations of the ebru art of paper marbling, buskers, shadow puppet performances, and—every Tuesday to Friday—live acoustic music. As the Big Bazaar was created in partnership with Turkish Airlines and the Turkish Embassy, shoppers who spend a minimum of US$30 at Ben’s or other participating outlets can enter for the chance to win two business-class tickets from the carrier for a trip to Istanbul.
