Hong Kong has a fairly full plate when it comes to restaurants showcasing food and service at their very best—from Amber to Lung King Heen, to name just two— but this September’s Food and Wine Festival at Hong Kong’s Langham hotel is drafting in some of the world’s pre-eminent names in food and wine for a 11-day festival that will do no harm to the city’s already glowing reputation.
Several visiting chefs, such as Albert Roux, creator of London’s three-Michelin star Le Gavroche, and Claude Bosi of Hibiscus (also in London), will join Tsang Chiu Ling of Langham Place, Mongkok, to collaborate with local wine experts before presenting their menus in the hotel restaurants. From a six-course foie gras omakase and sake pairing to a degustation menu by Angel Pascual, there is a broad canvas of culinary styles from which to choose.
A daily buffet, such as shucked oysters by Michael Filippidis, will offer another opportunity for visiting diners to sample signature dishes, while anyone looking to advance their knowledge can register for the festival masterclasses, which are scheduled throughout the 11-day program.
For an evening that promises to be memorable, diners can bid for a six-course dinner cooked by Michelin-starred Igor Macchia. The menu will be matched with Frescobaldi wines and served in the Penthouse Suite of Langham Place, Mongkok. The bidding will start at HK$25,000 (US$2,500) and all proceeds will be donated to charity.
To mark the festival, The Langham, Hong Kong, is offering guests staying in a Grand Room, Grand Langham Room, Langham Club Room or Executive Suite Executive Suite a HK$1,000 (US$130) dining credit per room, per day available for use at any of its restaurants .
