What started in Singapore as a pop-up store in co-owner Georgina Koh’s flat has now taken a life of its own. Nana & Bird, a Tiong Bahru boutique, has added a third store to its offering while still preserving the feeling that you’re shopping from your best friend’s closet. Featuring both Singaporean and international brands, Nana & Bird’s new Eng Hoon Street location sticks with its original minimalist decor and let’s the cloths do the talking. The exterior of the store is designed to match the suburban surroundings of the residential neighborhood, with ordinary glass-paned windows and potted plants flanking the entrance. Inside, cream floors and white walls serve as the canvas for the stores brightly colored frocks and statement jewelry. Angular dressing rooms reminiscent of playhouses along with bare racks make up the furnishings. Owners Koh and Chiewling Tan carefully choose the store’s offering that builds upon their original Chay Yan location. Atypical designers from Singapore’s usual high street selection populates the store, from Aijek to AERON outfits and visionary Building Block accessories. The girls want you to feel as though the store is an extension of their home, so next time you’re in the neighborhood stop by for a cup of coffee and a bit of shopping.
