Nobu Hong Kong Unveils New Donburi

Above: Donburi is the Japanese word for “bowl.”

Japan’s humble donburi (rice bowl) is getting a gourmet do-over at the InterContinental Hong Kong branch of Nobu, where chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s signature Peruvian-influenced Japanese dishes are served against the backdrop of Victoria Harbour and the Central skyline.

Available until the end of September, the restaurant’s special donburi lunch menu features a dozen sophisticated versions of the traditional comfort food, lacing the hot and cold creations with ingredients such as jalapeños, braised pork, and duck breast. For a splurge, order the Loco Moco, which combines foie gras and Wagyu; the name may reference Hawaii’s fast-food classic, but the bowl’s HK$628 (about US$81) price tag is anything but modest.

Nobu InterContinental Hong Kong, 18 Salisbury Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui; 852/2313-2323; lunch from 12 noon to 2.30 p.m.
