The fourth edition of the Singapore International Photography Festival opens today, a nine-weekend-long showcase featuring more than 800 works by 105 artists from 30 countries—the most expansive festival lineup yet and the biggest international photography festival in Asia. Themed as The Infinity, the biennale seeks to “explore the infinite creative nature of photography,” which it does best so in its headlining exhibitions including 4th SIPF Open Call, which displays works from up-and-coming contemporary photographers selected by SIPF’s curatorial team, and TYPES: After Becher, which brings for the first time to Singapore the large-format black and white prints of world-famous photography couple Bernd and Hilla Becher. Also new this year is DECK, its festival village made of 19 urban containers imaginatively refurbished by LAUD Architects. After hosting exhibits, such as TYPES, during the festival, it will go on to be an archive and resource room dedicated to Asian photography as hold educational programs for children. The festival runs through November 30 and is staged in 15 venues around the city; festival passes begin at $50, and eight of the exhibitions are free.
