Sanya is rapidly emerging as one of China’s most popular destinations. As the nation’s southernmost city—it’s located on the southern tip of Hainan Island—it enjoys year-round warm weather, attracting visitors from around the region, including Hong Kong.
For luxury hoteliers, setting up shop in Sanya is a no-brainer. You’ll find offerings from Conrad, Banyan Tree, Ritz-Carlton, and many others.
Earlier this week One&Only Resorts, which targets the ultra-luxury market and charges accordingly, announced it will launch a property in Sanya, its first in China. Expected to open in early 2014 on Tufu Bay, the One&Only Sanya will include about 180 rooms and villas and command private-coastline views.
“Tufu Bay is ideally suited for creating the first One&Only experience in China,” said Sol Kerzner, chairman of the developer Kerzner International. “The setting is just spectacular and I am very confident the resort will be well received by our many loyal One&Only guests and new guests alike.”
One&Only The Palm in Dubai earned a spot on DestinAsian’s 2011 Luxe List. The brand is also found in the Bahamas, Mexico, Mauritius, the Maldives, and South Africa.
