Song Saa Foundation has just launched a new set of philanthropic journeys in Cambodia: The Journeys of Change. Created in 2013 as a component of Song Saa Private Island, Cambodia’s first luxury coastal resort, the Song Saa Foundation works to preserve the environment and culture of the resort’s home in the Koh Rong archipelago by finding sustainable solutions to local issues—health care, depletion of natural resources, education, infrastructure—and this set of journeys invites travelers to take part in the process. Held from now through October and set in the pristine group of islands whose white beaches and lush rain forests have remained largely untouched, the four-day tours put guests to work alongside conservationists and experts from the foundation on projects such as collecting study samples from Cambodia’s first marine reserve, surveying surrounding rain forests about the impact of human activity, implementing sustainable food growing practices in local communities, and participating in the foundation’s Boat of Hope educational program. Journey groups are capped at 10 to ensure that members are able to fully embed themselves in the local Khmer community for the time they are there in an intimate, non-intrusive manner. Guests stay in Song Saa Private Island’s twin-share villas for the four-night duration of the trip, with meals, snacks, unlimited beverages, and room service included. Daytime itineraries generally span from morning until mid- to late-afternoon, but ample downtime is allotted so guests can enjoy the resort’s spa, water sports, and private beaches as well.
