As much as everyone likes to smell nice, between the fragile glass bottles and TSA’s liquid limitations, traveling with fragrances is often more of a hassle than it’s worth. In an impressively well-considered solution to this problem, Rosewood Hotels and Resorts has launched its latest luxury amenity, Scent in the City. At any hour day or night, guests can ring the Fragrance Butler, who will promptly arrive with a silver tray bearing 10 fragrances for men and women from which to choose—gratis. In lines with the hotel group’s Sense of Place philosophy that seeks to reflect each hotel’s locale in all aspects of its design, scent selections are curated to each city, varying from property to property. But collectively, all the classics have been enlisted: Tom Ford Black Orchid, Stella McCartney, Chanel No. 5, Gucci Flora, Jo Malone Wild Fig & Cassis are but a few scattered throughout the women’s menus; Halston Man, Burberry Touch, Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio, and Hermes Terre d’Hermes the men’s. So far, the amenity is only available at seven of the group’s 18 properties, including in The Carlyle in New York, Rosewood Hotel Georgia in Vancouver, Rosewood Sand Hill in Menlo Park, Rosewood Crescent Hotel and Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas, and Al Faisaliah Hotel and Rosewood Corniche in Saudi Arabia. But as the group plans to double its portfolio within five years, more butlers may be enlisted soon.
