On the 52nd floor of the Shard skyscraper in London, patrons of the Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard can now experience the city—and Europe, for that matter—from new heights. Opened August 18, the hotel’s infinity pool is the highest swimming pool in Western Europe, a 10-meter “skypool” that sits 180 meters above the sidewalks below. While practicing their strokes or lounging on its day-bedded decks (designed in elegant neutral tones by Hong Kong–based designer Andre Fu) guests can look out the glassy siding and spot St. Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye, Westminster. Note that the pool is exclusive to hotel guests except onward of 8:30 p.m., when drinkers and diners at the hotel’s Gong bar on the same floor can come sip their cocktails poolside.
