The home of Thailand’s original full moon party is to receive its own airport courtesy of an incipient national airline. Kan Air has broken ground on the US$22 million Koh Phangan project, which will be completed in very short order—some time in the second half of next year—if all goes to plan.
Kan Air currently flies to Khon Kaen, Pai, Mae Hong Son, Phitsanulok, and Nan from its Chiang Mai hub, but it plans to move its base to Bangkok’s Don Mueang airport.
In the meantime, visitors to Koh Phangan can either take a 45-minute ferry from Koh Samui or submit to a five-hour journey from Surat Thani. Bangkok Airways built the airport on Koh Samui and runs frequent flights to and from the capital.
