The new Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore will host its first cruise ship, the imposing 138,000-tonne Voyager of the Seas from Royal Caribbean International, on May 26. It will be the largest vessel to ever dock in the city, which wants to tap into Asia’s growing cruise market.

Initially open only to passengers and authorized personnel, the terminal is slated to fully open to the public later this year.

At 28,000 square feet, the facility will have the capacity to handle around 6,800 passengers at any one time. The arrival and departure halls will feature 80 check-in and 40 immigration counters, plus various stores and outlets. Other services will include 327 parking spaces, 25 bus docks, and a connection to planned MRT stations. The multimillion-dollar terminal is a joint venture between Singapore Airport Terminal Services and Europe’s Creuers del Port de Barcelona.

“Singapore’s strategic location coupled with the terminal’s state-of-the-art facilities and proximity to the city and Singapore Changi Airport will anchor the country’s position as Asia’s leading cruise hub,” said Melvin Vu, the CEO of SATS-Creuers Cruise Services, in a statement.
