This fall, Sotheby’s Hong Kong will auction more than 160 works by modern Chinese artists including paintings by Chu Teh-Chun, Zao Wou-ki, and Wu Guanzhong. For those with an appreciation for 20th century Chinese artists but lacking the stomach for Sotheby’s steep prices, a traveling public exhibition will also grace the region. The collection will make an appearance in Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore, and Taipei this September and the sale of the items is expected to exceed US$62 million. The exhibit will visit Shanghai’s Jian An Shangri-La on September 4 & 5, Beijing’s World Summit Wing on September 7 & 8, Singapore’s Regent Hotel on September 13 & 14, and Taipei’s Fubon Convention Center September 21 & 22. The public Hong Kong exhibit is scheduled for October 3 to 6 with online bidding from October 7.
If Chinese art isn’t your cup of tea, a selection of pieces by pop art zeitgeist Andy Warhol will also be shown at Sotheby’s Hong Kong gallery. “From Warhol, With Love” is a collection of Warhol’s work on paper in his early career years. The Warhol exhibit will be shown in the group’s Pacific Place gallery from September 12 to 24 and is available for private purchase.
