Pumpkins are rolled, weighed, dressed up, and cooked during the annual Goomeri Pumpkin Festival, one of Queensland’s quirkiest rural events, scheduled take place on May 27. Goomeri, a small farming community 200 kilometers northwest of Brisbane, attracts some 13,000 visitors during the event, which features quilt-making and whip-cracking demonstrations, competitions for the largest and best-decorated pumpkins, square dancing, and, the pièce de résistance, the Great Australian Pumpkin Roll.
