Marriott has teamed up with social enterprise Sleeping Bags again to create another series of tote bags made complete from retired bed linens from Marriott hotels in the United Kingdom. For this limited series (there are only 1,000 pieces available), luxury scarf designers Lily and Lionel have designed a graceful bird print for the bags. The design was chosen to convey the campaign’s message of sleeping a little better after supporting this environmental cause.
Andy Marks, founder and CEO of Sleeping Bags said that the problem of discarded linens was a serious one worth focusing on. “If laid end-to-end, bed linen condemned by the world’s leading hotel chains in one year would go around the world more than twice,” he said.
Previously, the hotel chain and social enterprise teamed up with local artists to do very limited hand-painted tote bags, and hairdryer, newspaper, and laundry bags for specific Marriott properties.
The tote bags are available on the hotel’s e-commerce website for US$31, with at least $15 from each bag going to the UK youth charity The Prince’s Trust.
