Australia’s flag carrier has long been known for its refined taste in drinks, having won numerous awards for its in-flight wine services. Its most recent investment in its beverage selection has been hiring a new team of wine experts and mixologists from Rockpool Group (which the carrier has worked with for 18 years on its food menus), which will select and create beverages for the carrier’s lounges and domestic and international flights. The team—named the Qantas Rockpool Sommeliers—comprises 16 members, who will use blind tastings to choose Australian wines and champagnes, create new cocktails each month, and write tasting notes for wines served in First and Business Class cabins.
Says Gareth Evans, the CEO of Qantas International: “We invest over $15 million dollars in the Australian Wine industry every year, so we take the selection process very seriously. We are really proud to showcase Australian wine to the world, and we’ll keep supporting boutique Australian wineries as well as the iconic drops that have defined Australia’s global winemaking reputation.”
