Delta Air Lines and Food & Wine magazine are partnering up to create a filmed culinary competition to find a new chef to help revamp the airline’s in-flight menu. Titled “The Cabin Pressure Cook Off,” the competition will pit four Food & Wine Best New Chef winners against each other in a four-part series of a challengers. The episodes will start airing in October on Delta’s in-flight entertainment system and on delta.com and foodandwine.com. “Cabin Pressure” has been produced to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Food & Wine’s Best New Chef award.
The four chef contestants are Hugh Acheson of Empire State South in Athens and Five & Ten and The National in Athens, Georgia; Linton Hopkins of Restaurant Eugene and Holeman & Finch Public House in Atlanta; Kelly English of Restaurant Iris and The Second Line in Memphis and Kelly English Steakhouse in St. Louis; and George Mendes of ALDEA in New York.
The winning chef will work with Delta’s prestigious culinary team of Michelle Berstein, Michael Chiarello, and master sommelier Andrew Robinson to create the new menu items. According to Delta, the airline serves more than 110,000 meals each day.
