Low-cost carrier HK Express is due to begin the first nonstop flights between Hong Kong and Chiang Rai with twice-weekly services from November 25. The timetable is geared toward weekend getaways, as flights depart Hong Kong at 1:45 p.m. on Mondays and 2:00 p.m. on Fridays, arriving in Chiang Rai at 3:50 p.m. and 4:05 p.m. local time. Holidaymakers can expect the return flights to leave from Chiang Rai at 4:35 p.m. on Mondays and 5:05 p.m. on Fridays, before touching down in Hong Kong at 8:05 p.m. and 8:35 p.m. respectively. Chiang Rai is the gateway to northern Thailand’s Golden Triangle, and its airport only has one international route so far, with direct flights to Kunming on China Eastern Airlines.
