This year, Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will face stiff competition in the full-service segment from Batik Air, a new airline owned by Lion Air. Batik Air uses new Boeing 737-900ER planes that will have business- and economy-class seats, Wi-Fi, and in-flight entertainment systems. Batik Air makes its inaugural flight on May 3 and will regularly serve Jakarta, Manado, Ambon, Balikpapan, and Pekanbaru. Lion Air is the largest airline in Indonesia in terms of market share in 2012 with 24 million passengers.
