New Routes Mean Competition Within Singapore Airlines Family

It appears Singapore Airlines is at ease with the carriers under its wings competing with one another.

Scoot, its upcoming medium-to-long-haul budget carrier, recently announced it will offer a Singapore-Bangkok service from July. Tiger Airways, the company’s short-haul budget carrier, already serves that route. (As does of course SIA itself, though at a much different price range.)

Meanwhile the full-service offshoot SilkAir will begin a Singapore-Hanoi service on June 5 — a route that’s also serviced by the mother carrier Singapore Airlines.

Details on the upcoming services:

Singapore-Bangkok on Scoot:
Scoot will depart Singapore at 5:25 p.m. and arrive in Bangkok at 6:45 p.m., employing Boeing 777-200 aircraft. On the way back it will leave Bangkok at 8 p.m. and land in Singapore at 11:15 p.m.

Singapore-Hanoi on SilkAir:
Employing Airbus A320-200 aircraft on the route, SilkAir will leave Singapore at 3:15 p.m. and arrive in Hanoi at 5:35 p.m. Flights will depart Hanoi at 6:30 p.m., arriving in Singapore at 10:50 p.m.
