This summer, a trio of popular tourist destinations in southern China are being added to AirAsia’s regional network. Services between Kuala Lumpur and the historic port city of Quanzhou will recommence twice weekly and start operating on June 18. Those to Guilin will then resume three times a week from July 18. AirAsia X plans to launch twice-weekly flights on the Kuala Lumpur–Chengdu (Tianfu) route beginning on July 1; the frequency will go up to thrice weekly from July 4. Recently, AirAsia also restarted daily services between Kota Kinabalu and Wuhan, strengthening its position as the Malaysian carrier with the most connections and capacity in China. The two sister carriers already operate a network of 15 routes with over 129 scheduled flights per week between the two countries.
The AirAsia Malaysia CEO, Riad Asmat, said in a press release, “Following the recent opening of China to the world and strong pent-up demand, our rapid expansion into China continues and we are proud to connect millions of guests not only to major destinations but also to underserved second-tier cities, and launch unique routes such as Quanzhou and Guilin.” He added, “China remains a key market for our future growth and we will continue to review a number of other potential Chinese routes that we hope to be in a position to announce soon.”
To celebrate these route launches, AirAsia is offering a 20 percent discount on seats aboard all flights across its 130 destinations. Deals are available for international services to/from Malaysia, Australia, China, Indochina, India, South Korea, Japan, and more. The promotion will run until May 21, 2023 for travel between June 1 and December 14 this year.
