In India’s Bishangarh village, about an hour’s drive from Jaipur Airport, an imposing 230-year-old warrior fort has been transformed into a luxurious, all-frills resort. This bold project by Alila Hotels and Resorts—which marks the brand’s second property in India—is quite the showstopper: its stone walls and turrets allow for complete sensory immersion, while its 59 suites are airy and spacious, clad in wood with daybeds and windows that frame sweeping views of rural Rajasthan. All around, the charms of Jaipur’s architectural style beckon alongside traces of Mughal and British design influences. Communal spaces here include lush event lawns, open-air terraces, ballrooms, and a banquet dining room, each one promising to provide a majestic backdrop for various occasions. These freshly minted accommodations and public areas are housed in a brand new structure, complementing the ancient fort that they tower over.

The resort’s food and beverage outlets sound promising too: there’s all-day restaurant Amarsar, outdoor dining venue Nazara, a champagne bar that doubles as a coffee and tea lounge, and an atmospheric bar and cigar room. In terms of activities, the resort has crafted five themed experiences for guests to choose from: Cultural Learning, a program designed for history buffs; Conscious Living, a wellness and cultural immersion; Active Spirits, a range thrilling outdoor adventures; Culinary Arts, a scrumptious option comprising cooking workshops and food trails; and Couple Celebration, a lineup of leisure pursuits for lovebirds. As with all luxury properties, Alila Fort Bishangarh also features the usual facilities such as a fitness center, spa, pool, and kids’ club. The resort is set to open at the end of this month with rates starting from US$280.
