Amazing Rachmaninov, Super Nova in Bangkok

One of the world’s great flautists is to join the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra for two performances in Bangkok this week.

Giuseppe Nova will play Saverio Mercadante’s Flute Concerto in E minor Op. 57, while the TPO is to recite Rachmaninov’s Symphony No. 2 In E minor, one of the last representations of Russian romanticism.

A graduate of both the Conservatorio Torino and Conservatoire Supérieur de Lyon, Nova’s career as a soloist has taken him to the world’s foremost concert halls. Italian newspaper il Giornale has lauded his “enlightened performance…  extraordinary musical sense.”

“Amazing Rachmaninov” is scheduled for July 6 at 7 p.m. and July 7 at 4 p.m. at the Mahidol University’s College of Music. Tickets cost 300 and 500 baht (about US$9-16) or 100 baht (US$3) for students.
